edc apprentice vsd engineer switching over softstarts on site

As baptisms of fire go…

Dunfermline, birthplace of the renowned Andrew Carnegie, and crucible for our final year apprentice, Ryan Taylor.

His task: the removal of obsolete units and the installation and setting to work of two ABB, 30kW softstarters which will be used to control storm pumps. All this whilst working to strict safety protocols and with the ever-watchful eyes of our Technical Director, David Kerr upon him.

With the padlocks removed and the clock ticking, Ryan duly completed the commissioning, making a few tweaks along the way. But then, as someone who has been schooled by top ABB –trained EDC engineers and supervised thoroughly throughout his training, you’d expect no less.

Commenting on his inaugural solo installation Ryan said:“What a great learning curve this has been. I’m extremely grateful for the patience and guidance shown by my mentors. There’ s a real sense of achievement in being able to successfully complete an installation like this. It’s the culmination of years of study and hands-on experience. It’s what I’ve been trained to do.”
